Correction and Clarification
A story published June 18, 2026 on the Jamaica Observer website under the headline, ‘Political appointments?’, incorrectly stated that executives of the Social Development Commission (SDC) contested the 2025 general election on Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) tickets.
SDC Executive Director Omar Frith was not a losing candidate for the governing JLP in the 2025 general election as reported by the Observer.
Frith last represented the JLP in the February 2016 general election when he lost to the People’s National Party’s (PNP) Mikael Phillips in Manchester North Western. He has been executive director of the SDC since January 2025 and has been with the organisation for 10 years.
It was also reported that SDC Chairman Hidran McKulsky was a losing JLP candidate in 2025. He was defeated by the PNP’s Michael Stewart in Manchester Southern also in 2016.
The Jamaica Observer regrets the errors which were made in the context of the Opposition Spokesman on Rural and Community Development Dr Kenneth Russell alleging that losing JLP candidates were appointed to senior positions within the SDC.
Russell highlighted the issue during his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on June 17.
