Loans officer charged with simple larceny
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – A St Catherine man has been charged with simple larceny following the alleged theft of a television and a government-issued laptop in Kingston last month.
Charged is 28-year-old Jason Douglas, a loan officer of West Chester Avenue, Portmore, St Catherine.
According to the Hunts Bay police, on Wednesday, June 24, Douglas allegedly offered to repair a man’s 32-inch television. The man agreed and left the television in his care. He also left a black and grey HP laptop at the location.
Reports are that about 7:00 pm the same day, the complainant returned and discovered that both the television, valued at $19,850, and the HP laptop, valued at $62,782.61, were missing.
The complainant reportedly contacted Douglas and requested that he return the items, explaining that the laptop was government property. However, Douglas allegedly ended the call abruptly.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police. Following an investigation, Douglas was apprehended and charged based on the complainant’s statement.
His court date is being finalised.
