High school student-athletes invited to apply for Pocket Rocket Foundation scholarship
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Student-athletes from high schools across Jamaica have been invited to apply for the Pocket Rocket Foundation’s 2026-2027 scholarship programme.
Founder and chairwoman of the Pocket Rocket Foundation, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, said one of the most rewarding parts of the programme is watching scholars blossom into well-rounded students.
“We know there are many talented young people across Jamaica who simply need the right support and encouragement to flourish and realise their full potential,” Fraser-Pryce said.
“This scholarship is about helping student-athletes stay focused on their education while continuing to pursue the sport they love,” she added.
Fraser-Pryce also emphasised that the scholarship is available to student-athletes representing their high school in any sport. Since its launch in 2013, the foundation has awarded 113 scholarships to students from more than 20 high schools across Jamaica, spanning 14 sporting disciplines.
Executive director of the Pocket Rocket Foundation, Dr Jermaine McCalpin, noted that the scholarship is more than financial assistance for the students.
“The foundation’s scholarship programme represents an investment in the future of Jamaica’s young people. We believe in the promise and potential of every student-athlete, and this programme is about giving them the opportunity to keep building on that potential,” said McCalpin.
Scholarship applications opened on July 1 and will close on August 15. Interested students must complete the online application form at www.pocketrocket foundation.org.
The scholarship is open to Jamaican student-athletes in second through sixth form from any high school, once they represent their school in at least one sporting activity.
Applicants must maintain regular school attendance, satisfactory conduct, a minimum average of 60 per cent across five subjects, and play an active role in school life.
Scholarships are renewable each academic year until graduation, provided students continue to meet the foundation’s academic, behavioural and sporting requirements.
