Top Boy actor Micheal Ward found not guilty of rape
Jamaican-British actor Micheal Ward, known for his role in the Netflix drama series Top Boy, has been cleared of rape and assault charges.
Ward was found not guilty of two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault when he appeared in a London court on Friday.
The charges stem from an incident between Ward and a woman at a nightclub in East London in January 2023, where the woman alleged Ward assaulted her in the back of his car.
According to a report by BBC News, Ward had met the woman at a nightclub in East London on January 2, 2023. The actor reportedly told the court that he thought the woman was cute when he met her and “sensed there was an interest there.” The Old Guard actor allegedly invited the woman to join her in his car.
“She was reciprocating the energy. She was pulling me close. For me, that was an inviting act, and we were both enjoying that moment,” BBC reported Ward saying. She “never mentioned anything about wanting to leave,” he added.
However, the woman reportedly denied Ward’s account and told the court that she repeatedly told Ward that she needed to leave “on multiple occasions.”
