Two fined $100,000 for illegal lottery activities in Jones Town
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man and a woman were fined $100,000 or 30 days in prison in connection with illegal lottery activities in Jones Town, Kingston 12, when they appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court recently.
This follows a joint illegal lottery deterrence operation in the area by the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) Enforcement Department and members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) on Friday, May 29, 2026.
Reports are that during the operation, the man and the woman, whose identities have not been revealed, were arrested for their alleged involvement in illegal lottery activities. The two were reportedly taken to the Denham Town Police Station, where they were formally charged with offences under the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act.
Several items of evidentiary value believed to be connected to the illegal lottery activities were also reportedly seized and documented by members of the JCF.
The matter was subsequently brought before the Half-Way Tree Parish Court, where both individuals pleaded guilty and were convicted.
The BGLC is reminding members of the public that illegal lottery activities are unlawful and pose a threat to the integrity of Jamaica’s regulated gaming industry.
“Persons who participate in, facilitate, or support illegal gaming activities may face legal consequences,” the BGLC said in a statement on Friday.
The commission said it remains committed to working alongside the JCF and other law enforcement partners to detect, deter and disrupt illegal lottery operations across Jamaica while ensuring that the gaming industry operates within a framework of fairness, accountability and public protection.
