Elderly landlord charged after allegedly cutting locks, robbing tenant
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — A 69-year-old man has been charged with breaches of the Rent Restriction Act and housebreaking and larceny after allegedly stealing $400,000 in coins from a tenant.
Charged is Lloyd Gonzales, otherwise called ‘Gons,’ a landlord of a St Catherine address.
According to reports from the Old Harbour Police, a woman securely locked her rented dwelling and left on July 6.
When she returned about 3:00 pm on July 9, she discovered that Gonzales had allegedly cut off the padlocks securing the front grille and replaced them with new ones.
After gaining access, she observed that the door to one of the rooms had been forced open and her savings pan, containing approximately $400,000 in coins, had been stolen.
The matter was reported to the police, and Gonzales was arrested. He was subsequently charged on July 11, after reportedly confessing to the crimes.
His court date is being finalised.
