Jones Town man, woman fined $100,000 each for illegal lottery activities
A Jones Town, Kingston 12 man and woman were arrested and fined $100,00 each for their alleged involvement in illegal lottery activities, the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) reported.
The BGLC said that through its Enforcement Department and in collaboration with members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), it continues to combat illegal lottery activities through targeted enforcement operations across the island.
“On Friday, May 29, 2026, the BGLC’s Enforcement Department and members of the JCF conducted a joint illegal lottery deterrence operation in Jones Town, Kingston 12. During the operation one male and one female were arrested for their alleged involvement in illegal lottery activities,” BGLC said.
“The individuals were taken to the Denham Town Police Station where they were formally charged with offences under the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act. During the operation, several items of evidentiary value believed to be connected to the illegal lottery activities were seized and documented by members of the JCF, in accordance with established procedures.”
The matter was subsequently brought before the Half-Way- Tree Parish Court where both individuals pleaded guilty and were convicted. Each person was fined $100,000 or, in default of payment, sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment.
The BGLC said it is reminding members of the public that illegal lottery activities pose a threat to the integrity of Jamaica’s regulated gaming industry. Persons who participate in, facilitate, or support illegal gaming activities may face legal consequences.
“The commission remains committed to working alongside the JCF and other law enforcement partners to detect, deter, and disrupt illegal lottery operations across Jamaica, while ensuring that the gaming industry operates within a framework of fairness, accountability, and public protection,” BGLC added.
The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission is the regulatory authority responsible for overseeing Jamaica’s betting, gaming and lottery industries. The commission works to ensure that gaming activities are conducted responsibly, transparently, and in accordance with the law.
