UPDATE: Death toll rises to 6 in Falmouth crash
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — The death toll from Friday’s head-on collision between a truck and a minivan along the Trelawny leg of the North Coast Highway has risen to six.
The latest victim was among three people who sustained injuries in the crash and were taken to Falmouth Public General Hospital for treatment.
It brings the number of people killed in traffic crashes in Trelawny since the start of the year to 20, five more than the 15 recorded during the corresponding period last year.
The circumstances that led to Friday’s fatal crash have not yet been ascertained.
The collision reportedly occurred shortly after 8:00 am on a section of the Bogue Gate main road.
Emergency personnel, including members of the police force and the Jamaica Fire Brigade, remain at the scene carrying out recovery operations while investigators work to determine the cause of the crash.
