KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Rifle Association (JRA) is set to host the 10th staging of its President’s Cup Level III IPSC Match on Saturday, July 25, at the JRA Range, as local shooters continue preparations for regional competition next month.

According to a release, the event marks a decade since the competition was first held in 2016 and will also feature the launch of the association’s first official match booklet, a magazine highlighting the competition, its athletes and the sport of practical shooting.

The President’s Cup is a Level III match sanctioned by the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC), making it one of the highest levels of competition outside of continental championships and the IPSC World Shoot.

The match comes as Jamaica prepares to send its national team to Aruba for the Level IV Pan American Handgun Championship in August, with the President’s Cup serving as a key opportunity for athletes to fine-tune their skills ahead of the regional tournament.

Jamaican shooters have enjoyed success internationally in recent years, securing podium finishes at the Level IV Latin American Handgun Championship in Argentina, the 2025 Florida State Championship and the Level III USA Extreme Open 2025.

Ten local competitors also qualified for the Level V IPSC World Shoot in South Africa, where Anthony Johnson won the Grand Senior category and Ryan Bramwell finished among the top 10 in the Production Optics Senior division. Both were recognised with the RJR/Gleaner Sportsman of the Year award in 2025 and 2024, respectively, while female pistol captain Yeonie Campbell was named Sportswoman of the Year in 2024.

Match Director Oshane Llewellyn said the event is an important milestone for both the association and its athletes.

“The President’s Cup is more than a competition — it is a showcase of discipline, resilience, and national pride. With our athletes preparing for the Pan American Championship, this match represents both a celebration of achievement and a launchpad for future success,” he said.

The JRA acknowledged the support of KIG, Pure Country and Connelley Health & Wellness Centre in staging this year’s event.

Admission to the competition is free, and the association is encouraging members of the public, athletes and supporters to attend and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the President’s Cup.
