KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s 2024 Olympic shot put bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell has signed a contract with Nike.

The 30-year-old Campbell, who has always highlighted the plight of non-track athletes in surviving financially, made the revelation via social media earlier this week.

“The work behind the scenes is paying off, and I’m still building. The season isn’t over yet; the best is still to come. Happy to announce I will be continuing my journey as part of the Nike family, Nike Athlete,” Campbell posted on Instagram.

“From the indoor season to now, 2026 has been all about growth, consistency and progress. Every competition has been another opportunity to improve and compete with the best in the world,” he added.

Campbell was one of four Jamaicans who tried to switch allegiance to Turkey in 2025, citing the lack of financial support from Jamaican athletics administrators.

However, world governing body World Athletics rejected their applications.

In announcing the decision, the panel said approving the applications would undermine the intent of World Athletics’ eligibility and transfer-of-allegiance rules.

It found the requests were part of a coordinated recruitment effort by the Turkish Government, operating through a state-funded club, offering lucrative contracts to attract foreign athletes and enable them to compete for Turkey at major events, including the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

In 2024, Campbell accused the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) of not caring about athletes, pointing to an eight-year US$40 million ($6.4 billion) Adidas contract which was turned down when the JAAA extended its contract with longtime sponsors Puma.

“I don’t believe that they really understand that it is challenging. For one, track and field, we are not sprinters, obviously, and as you can see, I am still unsponsored,” he said at the time.
