Earlier this month, gospel reggae artiste Sone G released the song Big Up, an uplifting track about thanksgiving, faith, and the reminder that God is bigger than every situation.

Big Up carries a vibrant fusion of roots reggae and pop crossover energy, marking a fresh musical direction for the artiste while staying firmly grounded in his message of hope, worship, and encouragement.

“This song came from a place of thanksgiving,” Sone G told the Jamaica Observer recently. “I remember being in the studio when I first heard the beat, and I felt like I just wanted to shout something to God. I was feeling so blessed, and the words ‘Big up God’ came out of my mouth.”

More than a song of celebration, Big Up is a declaration of faith for anyone facing hardship, uncertainty, or personal battles. Through the track, Sone G points listeners back to the source of their strength and reminds them that no challenge is greater than God.

“I wrote this song for the person who is going through a lot and can’t see a way out,” he said. “I want them to know that God is so much bigger than their situation.”

With its infectious hook, bold message, and sing-along energy, Big Up introduces a new sound within Sone G’s catalogue. The track blends the authenticity of roots reggae with a bright crossover appeal, creating a song that is both worshipful and widely accessible.

The timing of the release is also intentional. At a time when many people are navigating personal, spiritual, and emotional challenges, Sone G says the song was created to bring encouragement and renewed perspective.

“There is so much going on in people’s lives. Everywhere I go, people are dealing with something,” he shared. “A song like this serves as a reminder and brings encouragement that will resonate with people.”

Earlier this year Sone G debuted at #1 on the Reggae North Canadian Reggae and Dancehall Top 20 chart with
Rescue Me. His latest chart hit, Stronger, debuted at #20 on the chart last week and has moved up to #19.

The Clarendon-born Sone G began his musical journey while a member of the gospel duo PositivNRG.

“I was a part of PositivNRG for roughly 10 years along with the other member, who is now known as Nahti Prince. It was great to be a part of the duo, as we were both learning the craft and ironing out our writing skills, so it was great. It also formed a lifelong brotherhood, so it was more than just music,” said Sone G.

He spoke about his musical background and what led him to Christianity.

“I grew up in a family that owned and operated a sound system called Turbo Sonic in Rocky Point, Clarendon. So music came with being a part of the family. I loved the turntable and seeing how the selector operated it. I also got to see famous artistes at the time passing through our community, whether to eat seafood or just doing business with the sound system. That being said, I became a Christian in 1998, going into my second year at Clarendon College. That changed how I was going to operate my life, but I knew music would have a role to play. During that period Papa San, Stitchie, Chevelle Franklyn got saved then came along the new Main Street Crew with Danny Browne, Prodigal, DJ Nicholas, Ryan Mark, Jason Mighty, Mr Gallimore, and others who essentially opened that pathway for me,” Stone G shared.

Born Cecil Wilson, Sone G played football with his high school team in several competitions.

“I was a central midfielder, a maestro if you will. I was a decent midfielder but a standout central defender, that’s where I had most of my success. Had I stuck to that path I am confident I would have become a professional and represented my country,” he said.
