Grace & Staff equips young Jamaicans with future-ready skills at Digital Content Creation Camp
MORE than just learning how to use digital tools, 17 young Jamaicans spent three days discovering how to tell their own stories at the inaugural Grace & Staff Community Development Foundation (Grace & Staff) Content Creation Camp, held July 21-23 at Grace & Staff’s offices in downtown Kingston.
Designed to expose young people to some of today’s fastest-growing career skills, the immersive camp introduced participants to graphic design, video production and editing, and combined hands-on instruction with real-world projects. Participants designed graphics, filmed their own videos, and edited their productions while receiving mentorship from experienced industry professionals.
Grace & Staff Project Officer Daniel Jarrett facilitated the camp and led graphic design sessions alongside Herbert Thomas, an international sports content creator with World Athletics, who guided participants through video production and editing.
Reflecting on the experience, Jarrett said the camp highlighted the creativity and potential of Jamaica’s young people.
“Seeing the creative energy was inspiring. Our goal was to help them move from simply consuming digital content to confidently creating it, so we taught practical skills in design and production that can open real opportunities for their future careers,” he said.
Jarrett added: “It is always great engaging with young people and sharing knowledge that can help them thrive.”
Grace & Staff CEO Sandrina Davis said the initiative reflects the foundation’s ongoing commitment to preparing young Jamaicans for success in an increasingly digital world.
“Digital literacy and skills are no longer optional — they are essential. This camp is one example of how Grace & Staff is nurturing talent, building confidence, and equipping Jamaica’s youth with the tools they need to succeed. By investing today, we are helping to shape tomorrow’s innovators and storytellers.”
For the participants, the impact of the training was immediate.
“I’ve learned so much throughout this camp, and I am incredibly grateful for the knowledge and skills I gained in both videography and graphic design. It has been a truly valuable and enriching experience,” shared participant Joshua Williams.
