KINGSTON, Jamaica  —  Jamaica added two more medals on day three of track and field athletics at the 23rd Commonwealth Games after Tajay Gayle won their first ever men’s long jump title and Lloydricia Cameron took the bronze in the women’s shot put at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow, Scotland.

The medals took Jamaica’s tally to four so far after Romaine Beckford in the men’s high jump and Demario Prince in the 110m hurdles had won their events on Monday.

After just missing a medal in 2018 when he placed fourth, Gayle jumped 8.15m (1.5m/s) to hold off India’s Sreeshankar who took back- to -back silver medal with 8.09m (1.3m/s) just ahead of Stephen Mackenzie of Scotland who was third with 8.08m (0.9m/s).

Another Jamaican, Jordan Turner was ninth with 7.65m (0.1m/s). Cameron, who won her first national championships title this year, improved on her fourth place from four years ago in Birmingham, taking the bronze with a best of 17.87m in the final round to go head of Manpreet Kaur of India.

Canada’s two-time World Athletics Indoor champion Sarah Mitton defended her title with 19.88m as Nigeria’s 19-year-old Jessica Oji took the silver medal with 17.87m, getting the edge over Cameron with a better second throw.
