It was a day of dominance at Caymanas Park as four-time defending champion trainer Jason DaCosta and leading jockey Tevin Foster both claimed four winners each on the 10-race card yesterday.

The pair even teamed up for three of those wins, none bigger than Dream Catcher’s victory in the 87th running of the $3.75-million Jamaica Oaks Classic over 10 furlongs (2,000m).

Dream Catcher lived up to her billing as the best local-bred three-year-old filly. Bred by Bern Identity,
Dream Catcher surged to the lead approaching the distance and was eased down to win by two and three-quarter lengths. Giving Thanks (Reyan Lewis) ran on for second, with Gulfstream Cat (Chalrick Budhai) third. The winning time was 2:07.4, with splits of 25.2 x 50.0 x 1:14.1 x 1:40.0.

DaCosta and Foster’s other joint successes came earlier on the card. In race two, they teamed up with three-year-old American-bred chestnut colt Novio for a comfortable win. They struck again in race four with four-year-old bay colt Star Quest.

DaCosta’s fourth winner came in the co-feature, the 22nd running of the $2-million Betting, Gaming, and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) Trophy over five and a half furlongs (1,100m). Dothraki, under Robert Halledeen, produced a late run to come from behind runners and beat Rainsville (Jaheim Anderson) and
California Crown (Foster) by one and three-quarter lengths in a smart 1:05.0.

Foster completed his quartet in race six aboard Wayne’s Princess for owner-trainer Oral Hayden.

The action continues on Thursday with the feature race being the Jamaica Derby.
