An experienced Jamaican team departed the island on Sunday for the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship to be held in The Bahamas at Royal Blue Golf Course, Nassau. The team is scheduled to have a practice round on Monday to help golfers become familiar with the course ahead of competition on Tuesday.

The Jamaicans will seek to at least match their runner-up spot from last year, or do one better by winning the championship and take their first hold of the Arthur Ziadie country trophy. The men’s team ended in third place last year, while the ladies’ team bagged fourth.

The men’s team is led by Zandre Roye, the current national golf champion who also topped the trials.

Oshae Haye, a former national golf champion and fresh from placing 14th for Jamaica at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games, is also in the team to The Bahamas.

The other members of the team are many-time representatives Owen Samuda, Dr Mark Newnham and Trey Williams, the youngest men’s player on the team. Camden Purboo, who will be teeing for Jamaica in the championship for the second time, having represented the country in 2025, is also a member of the group.

Mattea Issa, who is the reigning national women’s golf champion, will lead the team of three ladies.

She also featured at the CAC Games where she placed fifth on the back of some consistently good scores after moving up the leaderboard each round.

Kingston Burke and Kiera Williams, who are not domiciled in Jamaica, will join the team in The Bahamas for the practice round and the fifty-four hole/three-round championship. Kiera Williams is the youngest women’s player on the team.

The reserve players Sean Morris and Aman Dhiman will not be travelling with the team.
