WATCH: Elderly man suffers severe burns in St James house fire
ST JAMES, Jamaica — An 85-year-old man suffered severe burns after a fire destroyed his home and two others in Cottage Road, Kensington, on Monday night.
The elderly man sustained burns to his hands, back and other parts of his body after he became trapped inside the burning structure.
He was rescued by a relative who managed to enter the house and carry him to safety. The man was rushed to hospital, where his condition remains unknown.
Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at approximately 11:00 pm on Monday. A unit from the Montego Bay Fire Station responded and, upon arrival, found that three houses located on the same property had been completely destroyed.
The injured man and five other residents were left homeless as a result of the fire. Among those displaced were three children — girls aged 15, nine and four — who were not at home when the blaze started.
