I Dream Again a safe bet Kaz HoShay Trophy
The $1.25-million Kaz HoShay Trophy takes centre stage at Caymanas Park on Saturday. The Restricted Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward has attracted a field of 14 runners going 5½ furlongs (1,100m).
The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a look at each runner and their chances of winning.
1. ALLEGIANCE: (5 ch h by Midnight Hawk – Princess Geeta) – Ran a good second, beaten 7¾ lengths by Boss Man over 7 furlongs (1,400m) on June 28. Allegiance drops back to 5½ furlongs which should still suit him and is expected to run well.
2. I DREAM AGAIN: (4 b c by Soul Warrior – Lady Najariya) – The one to beat on paper. I Dream Again was 2 lengths second to stablemate Miss MoneyPenny over the straight on July 11. This longer trip will suit and he can win unchallenged.
3. ABREATHOFFRESHAIR: (5 b h by Perfect Curlin – City Flight) – No winning chance here.
4. UNRULY MO (USA): (4 b c by Outwork – Snakeinthegrass) – No form to suggest he can win.
5. BOB THE BUILDER: (4 b c by Hedge Fund – Sound of Miracle) – Showed good speed when third, beaten 2¾ lengths by Miss MoneyPenny and I Dream Again over the straight on July 11. Another solid effort expected.
6. CALIFORNIA GOLD: (6 b h by Lion Tamer – Saphira) – Can be safely bypassed.
7. HUNTSMAN: (6 ch h by Key Power – Dream Point) – Has been running OK but lacks the will to win.
8. MY SUNSHINE: (5 b m by Sunshine N Shadow – Noon It Is) – Likely to be left behind.
9. JOHNCROWJEFF: (8 b g by Natural Selection – Sweetyourock) – Not expected to win but could grab a minor cheque.
10. STARRAURA: (4 ch f by Bold Conquest – Little Wasp) – Has been working very well ahead of this. Expected to make a bold bid.
11. STRIKE SMART: (6 b h by Wannabeaplayer – Profile) – These will prove too hot to handle for Strike Smart.
12. SHOOTING STAR (USA): (5 b h by Tapiture – Diffuse Nebula) – May run on without threatening to win.
13. COOKIE DAY NIGHT: (6 ch h by Resurgence – Eloping Emma) – Late runner who should be finishing on for a piece.
14. COMMANDER Z (USA): (5 ch h by Khozan – Wontoo) – Has been struggling and that’s unlikely to change.
