OREGON, United States — Tiana Marshall led all qualifiers for the semi-finals of the 100m hurdles after she ran 13.10 seconds (0.3m/s) to win her first-round heat at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships at Hayward Field, Eugene, Oregon, on Friday.

All four Jamaicans in the sprint hurdles, two each in the men’s and women’s events, made progress to the semi-finals scheduled for the afternoon session with the final set for Saturday.

Marshall outclassed the field to win easily, beating Barbados’ Taylor Foster by a full half a second and will be joined by Akeelah Bell, who advanced on time after she was fourth in her heat in 13.46 seconds (-0.1m/s).

Both men were second in their 110m hurdles first round to book automatic spots in their semi-final; Marquis Page ran 13.34 seconds (0.6m/s) behind France’s Ewenn Vernack who ran a personal best 13.22 seconds.

Taj-Oneil Gordon ran 13.49 seconds (0.9m/s), beaten to the line by American Zacchaeus Brooks, who clocked 13.11 seconds, the second fastest in the round.
