Plans already in train for Elegance 2.0
After an enthusiastic response to Elegance: The Ballroom Experience, promoter Isaiah Laing has earmarked November as the date for a second show.
The oldies ‘session’ took place on July 19 in the Jamaica Pegasus Ballroom.
Featuring sound system selectors spinning songs from the 1950s to the early 2000s, it attracted a mature audience.
“The sentiment from everyone was it was the nicest party they’ve attended. ‘Laing, keep it every month end,’ ” the promoter shared he was told.
The former police officer, best known as founder and lead organiser of the controversial Sting concert, said he had no idea that the final of sport’s biggest showpiece was being held on July 19, which may have stopped more patrons from attending Elegance.
“I started planning this event in February. I never knew the World Cup final was on the same date. And when I found out it was too late,” he said. “But I really enjoyed this event and will win big the next time around.”
Laing based Elegance: The Ballroom Experience on popular oldies dances like Rae Town, which is held weekly in that Kingston Central community.
Manning the turntables and spinning the hits were selectors Master Rogj, Welton Irie, Krazy Kris, and DJ VJ Snow.
Laing had one disappointment with Elegance: The Ballroom Experience: “I expected more police and ex-police to attend, especially because the charity was for the JCF Convalescent Centre in St Elizabeth. Rain or shine, I must make that presentation,” he said.
