JAMAICA’S Joel Angus and Tahlia Richardson won the mixed doubles title at the inaugural Jamaica International Badminton Tournament, which concluded at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium, University of Technology (UTech), in Kingston on Sunday.

The Jamaica International, the opening tournament of the Jamaica Badminton Association’s SMASH Jamaica 2026 series, was held August 5-9 and featured players from Jamaica and overseas competing for ranking points and international experience.

Angus and Richardson defeated fellow Jamaicans Kenneth Anglin and Brenna Bisnott, who finished second in the mixed doubles. Matthew Abela and Gabriela Skorkowska of Malta/Poland and Jamaicans Matthew Yee-Grant and Aaliyah Walker shared third place.

In women’s doubles, Sydney Hanyue Li and Katelin Ngo of the United States won the title. Naomi Junco Vasquez and Namie Miyahira of Peru finished second, while United States pairs Kavya Krishna and Kimaya Krishna, and Brazil’s Elisa Del Passo Fraga and Juliana Akemi Murosaki shared third place.

India’s Sai Pratheek K and Ruben Kumar Rethinasabapathi won the men’s doubles title, with United States pair Srinivas Subash and Joshua Yang finishing second.

Zachary Desjardins and Yanqing Wang of Canada, and Peruvians Guillermo Buendia Maldonado and Umesh Lescano Ko, shared third place.

Peru’s Ines Lucia Castillo won the women’s singles title ahead of Disha Gupta of the United States. Kavya Krishna of the United States and Brazil’s Juliana Akemi Murosaki shared third place.
