Currenci 87 winning with ‘Owna Tings’
Not many recording artistes from the rural town of Annotto Bay in St Mary can boast that they have climbed onto international musical charts. However, Currenci 87 says he plans to use his career to change the narrative that it is harder to get a major musical breakthrough while residing outside of Jamaica’s capital Kingston.
The singjay says the success of his single, Owna Tings, which is currently holding the number seven spot on the USA Itunes Reggae Singles chart, as well as enjoying daily rotation on local and international radio stations, is an indication that good music has no limits.
“Me stay a Annotto Bay St Mary and chart inna America and get played the four corners of the earth, suh me want tell every artiste wheh based inna di country area dem seh just do good music and nuh listen to who a tell yuh seh yuh haffi live a town fi buss. The artiste says he hopes to claim the number one spot soon. According to the artiste, this would be a major milestone for not only himself but his community and upcoming artistes from his parish.
