Kiprich mourns the death of his father
Dancehall artiste Kiprich, real name Marlon Plunkett, is in mourning after his father, Magnus Lloyd Plunkett, died suddenly on Friday at age 72.
The deejay revealed his father had been battling kidney issues and was due for follow-up urine tests.
“My brother is down in Jamaica and he was cooking some soup for him… and when he went to check on him, he was unresponsive,” Kiprich said. Plunkett was later pronounced dead at hospital.
Affectionately known as “Mr Chin,” the elder Plunkett was hailed by his son as a sharp businessman, a fearless transport operator/owner and a selfless mentor.
“He was able to turn any small business into something major… his mentorship was unmatched,” Kiprich said, adding that his dad was a die-hard reggae lover who danced with a signature “rude boy” swagger.
He leaves behind four sons — Kiprich, Ricardo, Sprite Rafer and Jamal Plunkett — and a daughter, Kayla Plunkett, as well as his wife, Carrol Plunkett, to whom he’d been married since 1994.
Kiprich has had a tough emotional roller coaster year as he lost his newborn baby sired with his fiancée earlier this year.
“This ah one of the roughest years, mi father, only Almighty knows,” he said.
