Glen Campbell is up to his old tricks in The Gallis and the Rolling Calf, the latest play by Patrick Brown’s Jambiz International currently showing at The Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston.

The popular actor plays Bruce Hunter, aka John, a ladies’ man who meets his match in his latest conquest.

Courtney Wilson, another regular in Brown’s productions; Desmond Dennis, Renae Williams, and Shanique Brown complete the cast.

While billed as a comedy, The Gallis and the Rolling Calf has a spooky element that comes in the form of the rolling calf, a supernatural beast that has been part of Jamaican folklore for decades.

Campbell told the Jamaica Observer that Brown’s use of the mythical ox helps introduce it to the uninitiated.

“We’re not really concerned that the current generation will be lost or feel disconnected by our references to cultural figures such as duppy or rolling calf. Most, if not all persons over the age of 10 years old, would have heard about a ghost, or duppy, as we refer to it in Jamaican folklore,” he said. “Patrick Brown has quite skilfully and creatively interwoven the description of a rolling calf into the plot, so even a visitor to our island watching the play would have a very clear understanding of what we are speaking about.”

The Gallis and the Rolling Calf is Brown’s first play for 2026. Indecent Proposal, his previous production, closed in late 2025.

Campbell spoke about working with a regular cast of actors.

“Over the past 28 years, Jambiz has built a name for itself as being the leading theatre production company in the English-speaking Caribbean, and audiences have grown to expect a certain level of product once certain names are associated with it. For that very reason, persons will purchase tickets solely on the fact that ‘Patrick Brown write it?’ or ‘Glen and Courtney in it?’ “

The Gallis and the Rolling Calf plays Wednesday to Friday at 8:00 pm, and weekends at 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
