Security guard killed in four-vehicle crash; police hunt hit-and-run driver
ST MARY, Jamaica—A 39-year-old security guard was killed in a four-vehicle collision along the Tower Isle main road in St Mary on Saturday night.
The St Mary police are now searching for the driver of a vehicle that reportedly fled the scene. The deceased has been identified as Steevie Smith of Epworth, St Ann.
Police reports are that around 9:00 pm, Smith was driving his Toyota Fielder motorcar towards Stewart Town when his vehicle was reportedly struck by another vehicle which failed to stop.
Following the impact, Smith lost control of the Toyota Fielder and the car reportedly spun into the path of two other vehicles, a Mercedes Benz and a Ford Ranger. Smith became trapped inside his vehicle and had to be extracted by firefighters who responded to the scene.
He was later pronounced dead.
The other persons involved in the collision sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The police said investigations are continuing as they work to identify and locate the driver of the vehicle that reportedly failed to stop following the initial collision.
