Mechanic dies in St Elizabeth crash
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Police in St Elizabeth are reporting that a 22-year-old mechanic succumbed to injuries he sustained in a crash on the Elim main road near Braes River Monday morning.
Police named the crash victim as Kenard Morgan, a resident of Thornton in north east St Elizabeth.
Police said in the wee hours Morgan was driving a Toyota Esquire motorcar on the Elim main road when he failed to negotiate a corner and lost control of the vehicle resulting in it going off road and crashing into a tree.
Morgan was pronounced dead at hospital. Police were subsequently alerted about the fatal crash.
The St Elizabeth Traffic Department is investigating the incident.
Statistics from the police show that up to 6:00 am on Monday, 210 fatalities from 181 collisions were recorded on the nation’s roads compared to 239 fatalities from 208 collisions for the corresponding period last year.
