Perfect Timing
Long before their walk down the aisle, Jamaicans Tanashia Jones and Kurt Barrett’s love story began 20 years ago at a barbecue in Queens, New York. The chemistry was instant; it was Kurt’s self-assured charm that Tanashia admired.
“He struck me immediately as confident, handsome, and outspoken,” Tanashia shared with Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).
Their friendship stayed strong through the years as Tanashia transitioned out of a past relationship. But in 2022, a shift in perspective prompted her and Kurt to finally take a chance on each other.
“We starting dating and then we soon realised that the connection that we had shared for so long had deepened into an emotional and physical attraction,” Tanashia shared.
As their love grew, the two became inseparable. Yet what truly cemented their bond was how effortlessly Kurt connected with Tanashia’s son, Joshua.
“What made me realise that he was the one for me was the way he cared for my son. How attentive he was of him. He was also consistent in the way he loves and cares for me. His consistency with loving Joshua and me was unmatched,” Tanashia recalled.
Their romance reached a defining moment on December 12, 2024, when Kurt proposed to Tanashia.
“He invited me to dinner at a steak restaurant in Long Island, New York. We shared a delicious meal, sharing heartfelt conversations and reflecting on the incredible journey of the past years,” Tanashia said. “When it was time for dessert, a plate arrived at our table with the words ‘Will You Marry Me?’ on it. Naturally I said yes!”
Tanashia and Kurt’s celebration of their wedding festivities brought them back to Jamaica for a three-day affair, which kicked off on July 10, 2026 at Trident Castle in Portland. The celebrations began with an energetic pool party before transitioning into the ceremony on July 11.
ZeeTee Décor and Rentals brought the venue to life, creating a tropical paradise fit for royalty. To the strains of This Is Why, I Love You by CALLMEJB, Tanashia walked up the aisle looking luminous in a strapless Fjolla Haxhismajli gown. With wedding officiant Barry Hall guiding the ceremony, the couple committed their future to each other in front of a gathering of 100.
Following dinner at the reception, loved ones raised their glasses in a series of moving toasts to the newly-weds. Tanashia and Kurt then carried out the traditional cutting of their multi-tiered red velvet cake with buttercream frosting, before officially opening the dance floor to Céline Dion’s Love Doesn’t Ask Why.
Honeymoon bliss followed at Excellence Oyster Bay in Trelawny.
