Teachers reject latest Gov’t wage offer

TRELAWNY, Jamaica—Delegates of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) voted on Tuesday against the government’s latest wage offer.

Of the 213 votes cast, 155 voted against and 54 for. Four votes were rejected.

The votes took place on day two of the JTA’s 62nd Annual Conference being held at the Ocean Coral Springs Hotel in Trelawny.

President of the union, LaSonja Harrison told the media on Tuesday afternoon that a formal notification will be dispatched to the Ministry of Finance and Public Service, indicating the outcome and requesting the earliest possible date to continue the negotiations.

More to come.
