UWI investigating cybersecurity alert
KINGSTON, Jamaica—The University of the West Indies (The UWI) says it has received an alert regarding a potential cybersecurity issue involving ransomware claims.
The university in a press release on Wednesday, said at this time, there is no confirmed evidence of a breach of its information technology (IT) environment, systems, or any leaked university information.
“As a precaution, we are treating this matter with utmost seriousness. Our incident response plan is active, and we are working with cybersecurity experts and regional authorities. Technical teams across the university are investigating, reviewing systems, checking for indicators of compromise, and confirming our readiness,” The UWI said.
The university urged all members to remain vigilant, avoid clicking on suspicious links or attachments, and promptly report any unusual system activity or suspicious messages to their campus IT helpdesk.
