Wanted Dom Rep man captured by St Mary police

ST MARY, Jamaica — A 26-year-old man from the Dominican Republic who was wanted for murder in his home country has been captured by Jamaican authorities during an intelligence-led operation in Annotto Bay, St Mary.

Jhovanny De Jesus Metz Cruz was wanted by authorities in the Dominican Republic in connection with the April 17 murder of a garbage truck driver in Santiago.

He was captured by lawmen assigned to the St Mary Policing Division on Tuesday, August 18.

Police said swift action was taken by a team of officers acting on information which led them to conduct a targeted operation in Annotto Bay, where the suspect and another Dominican Republic national were being housed by a resident of the community.

All three men were taken into custody.

Investigations are underway as local authorities continue to collaborate with their international law enforcement counterparts.
