Bringing in Cardi for BZR WKND was a no-brainer, says team
KINGSTON, Jamaica (AFP) — The decision to make international rap star Cardi B the headlining act at BZR Weekend was a very intentional choice, according to Kaylia Williams of Konnect Media.
Speaking on Behalf of the BZR WKND team, Williams said organisers – Ryan Burke and Gramps Morgan – wanted an artist who could deliver more than just a big name, and instead create a true cultural moment.
“She is one of the biggest and most recognisable personalities in global music right now, but what makes this even more exciting is her genuine connection to Caribbean culture and Jamaica. We have seen her embrace dancehall, celebrate Jamaican culture, and even bring Vybz Kartel onto her Little Miss Drama Tour in Miami. So, for us, bringing Cardi B to Jamaica feels like a natural crossover rather than simply importing an international superstar,” Williams said.
Cardi B, whose given name is Belcalis Almánzar, will make her Jamaican debut at BZR WKND, having never performed in the country before.
Her high-energy performances are also part of the reason she was approached by the organisers
“Jamaicans love performers who give 100 per cent, and Cardi B is unapologetic, unpredictable, charismatic and theatrical. Her 2026 tour demonstrated exactly that, with major arena shows and a production built around big moments and high-energy performance,” Williams noted.
She maintained that Cardi B can bring in numbers comparable to artistes like Chris Brown.
“That’s exactly why we chose Cardi B. Her fan base is not up for debate. Cardi has a massive global following, and she has the ability to move culture, create conversation and bring people out. She appeals to a wide demographic from hardcore hip-hop fans to dancehall and Caribbean audiences, fashion lovers and the wider pop culture audience.”
The organisers expect her to bring drama, energy, attitude, hits and a whole lot of vibes to the Jamaican audience and beyond the performance.
“We expect Cardi to bring global attention to Jamaica. This is being positioned as her first Caribbean stadium-headlining concert, which makes the moment bigger than just one show. It puts Jamaica at the centre of the international entertainment conversation and gives visitors another reason to come experience our music, culture, food, fashion and nightlife,” stated Williams.
Williams also pointed out that while the American rapper is the headliner, patrons have an entire weekend of experiences to look forward to.
“Cardi B is going to be a major highlight…but BZR WKND is bigger than one artist. We want patrons to come with their friends, dress up, bring the vibes and be ready to create memories. Whether you are a local or flying into Jamaica for the weekend, the goal is for you to leave saying, ‘Jamaica did THAT!’”
Noting that BZR WKND is being designed as a premium entertainment experience, Williams said the team is looking at luxury VIP experiences, premium viewing areas and elevated hospitality options, including exclusive spaces where guests can enjoy the show in comfort, style and with some of the best views of the action. “The idea is to give our VIP guests more than just a great seat,” she said.
BZR WKND will be held at the National Stadium, with four events over four days, from October 16–19.
Williams said other international acts will take the stage but patrons will have to wait for the official announcements.
