Gugumental’s birthday celebration a success
Popular Stone Love selector Gugumental celebrated his birthday in fine style on Saturday, August 15, in his community of Southside in downtown Kingston.
Held at the GraceKennedy parking lot, the event attracted a large turnout of supporters including several members of the entertainment fraternity.
Gugumental, real name Savion Scott, has been a member of the Stone Love sound system for over a decade.
His contribution to the dancehall fraternity has not gone unnoticed. Several individuals paid tribute to him during the event.
Among his fellow selectors who turned out to memerise the crowd with current hits were DJ Mad Dawg, Bunny Mental, Boom Dis, and Alex Frass.
“I am very happy with the turnout tonight,” Gugumental told the Jamaica Observer. “The support was excellent and the special part out of anything else was the fact that I got to host this in my community. The fireworks, for me, was the highlight. Thanks to Bounty Killer, Majah Hype, and Fambo, and the other entertainers who came out tonight.”
Reflecting on his tenure in music, Gugumental is happy with his career growth.
“Playing for an iconic sound like Stone Love is like a dream come true. The journey has been good, and I have been to so many countries around the world representing the sound. This has exposed me to different cultures and for that I am very grateful,” said Gugumental.
Chieftin Campbell, brand manager for Str8 Vybz Rum, which sponsored Gugumental’s birthday bash, is pleased to have been on board.
“Str8 Vybz was proud to be a part of Gugumental’s birthday celebration and to support an event that brings together the energy, creativity, and authenticity that define dancehall culture. Gugumental has been a strong partner of the brand, especially through his weekly event series South Vybz Tuesdays, and our involvement reflects Str8 Vybz’s commitment to being present where the culture lives and where people come together to create memorable experiences. As we continue to build Str8 Vybz as the rum of dancehall, partnerships like this allows us to connect with consumers in an authentic way while celebrating dancehall artistes, selectors, and personalities who ontinue to shape Jamaica’s entertainment landscape,” Campbell told the Observer.
