Singer and recording artiste Tessanne Chin, through her charitable foundation, just hosted over 50 talented children — her largest cohort to date — for a 4th annual Summer Singing Intensive training camp.

The programme’s signature end of camp showcase — this year titled Out of the Box — got underway on Sunday, August 23, at Louise Bennett Garden Theatre (Ranny Williams Centre).

The group was coached by Chin and a team of highly qualified performance instructors, among them Evad Campbell, Lori Burnett, Diana Sancho, Victoria Taffe, and Kelly Barrett.

This year’s edition also marks a major milestone for one of Jamaica’s most prominent singers who has plans to expand her year-round performing arts academy, called The Voice House, at a newly dedicated home now located in Liguanea, St Andrew.

She also pointed out that the dynamic performance ensemble associated with the programme will also now be known as The Voice House.

“It has always been my dream is to create a space where children can develop their voices and their confidence all year long. Through The Voice House we will offer comprehensive training in singing, voice acting, stagecraft, and performance development, giving young talent a structured pathway to grow their skills throughout the year,” shared Chin.

“Over the past three years we have been successfully hosting an after-school programme and our kids have been consistently engaged for several corporate and entertainment events, demonstrating the high-calibre output that we are delivering. We see so much potential to deliver so much more under our expanded programme,” she further highlighted.

Looking ahead, Chin and her team are laying the groundwork to establish a talent agency for children, creating a safe, structured avenue for young performers to access auditions, bookings, and industry opportunities both locally and internationally.

“Our new home has and will continue to allow us to give them the kind of consistent, world-class training that builds not just performers, but empowered young people,” she added.

Chin’s vision is being strengthened by the support of some of Jamaica’s most influential artistes, including Sean Paul, who this year has generously offered scholarships to help children access the year-round programme and pursue higher education in the performing arts.

She also noted the kind contributions of this year’s sponsors Tastee, Supreme Ventures, Sagicor, Sandals Foundation, CHASE Fund, Digicel Foundation, Lasco, GraceKennedy Group, Loshusan, and Wisynco.

She also expressed gratitude for her production partners and Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) for their involvement in making the programme a success.
