KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s broadcasting fraternity is mourning the passing of veteran broadcaster Dervan Malcolm, whose voice was a familiar presence on Power 106 FM for more than three decades.

Malcolm died on Thursday following a period of illness, according to the RJRGLEANER Communications Group, which expressed condolences to his family, colleagues and friends.

Over the course of his career, Malcolm took on several roles within broadcasting, including news presenter, editor, sportscaster, talk-show producer and executive producer of programmes.

In March 2007, he became the host and producer of Both Sides of the Story on Power 106 FM, a current affairs programme that became closely associated with his commitment to public education, empowerment and advocacy.

His contribution to media and community development earned him several recognitions, including the Diaspora Ambassador in Media Award from the New York-based Union of Jamaican Alumni Associations. He was also honoured with the Bickle Award from Team Jamaica Bickle for his work highlighting issues affecting Jamaicans overseas and received further recognition from the City of Los Angeles and the Jamaica Awareness Association of California for his contributions to the Jamaican community.

He also hosted The Jamaican Diaspora Live Online.
