Andrade, Mayo to battle for ATP Kingston 2 title

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Ecuador’s Andy Andrade and American Aidan Mayo will contest the final of the ATP Kingston 2 Challenge Lawn Tennis tournament at the Liguanea Club on Saturday starting at 6:00 pm.

The 27-year-old Andrade, the number two seed, defeated 21-year-old Rodrigo Mendez of Mexico in three sets, winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in just over two hours on Centre Court.

Andrade came back roaring after dropping the first set, throwing down six aces, winning 73 per cent of his first serves and 62 per cent of his second serves. Andrade converted three of the 10 break points compared to Mendez’s two of five chances.

Andrade will face Mayo, who defeated 17-year-old Guto Miguel of Brazil in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in a match that lasted one hour and 30 minutes.

The winner will take home US$17,000 and 75 ranking points. The runner-up will get US$9,000.

In the curtain-raiser, the French pair of Arthur Raymond and Luca Sanchez will face Alexander Donski of Bulgaria and Dan Martin of Canada in the Doubles final at 4:00 pm.

Raymond/Sanchez are the number one seeds and they dismissed the third-seeded Indian pair of Siddhant Banthia and Arjun Kadhe 6-4, 6-4 in just over one hour on the Grandstand court.

Then Donksi/Martin turned back the Australian pair of Calum Puttergill and Ajeet Rai 4-6, 6-3, 14-12. The winner of the doubles final will walk away with US$4,980 and the runner-up US$2,880.
