KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Island Traffic Authority (ITA) has welcomed Lieutenant Colonel Sheldon Bryan as its new director-general of Road Traffic, following his assumption of office on September 1, 2026.

In a release, the ITA said Lieutenant Colonel Bryan brings more than 20 years of service in the Jamaica Defence Force, with experience in strategic leadership, governance, organisational reform, risk management, cybersecurity, project delivery and stakeholder coordination.

As he begins his tenure, Bryan has outlined his vision for the transformation of the ITA.

“As we enter a new phase of the authority’s transformation, aligned with and in support of the strategic intent of the Board of Directors and the Minister of Transport, our focus is on building a modern, efficient and responsive road traffic regulator,” Bryan said.

“Our focus is to transform the ITA into an independent, digitally enabled, standards-based, transparent and people-centred authority, supported by resilient staff, facilities, systems and operations.

Technology will be central to this transformation. We will modernise and digitise key services, improve access to information, strengthen our systems and reduce unnecessary delays in how the public interacts with the authority.

Equally important is our commitment to customer service excellence. We intend to establish a culture of professionalism, responsiveness, accountability and consistent service across all ITA locations,” he said.

Bryan said he also plans to invest in the ITA’s staff and strengthen governance.

“We will also invest in our staff, strengthen governance, improve our infrastructure and build the institutional capacity required to support safer roads and a more effective road traffic regulatory system.

This transformation is not simply about introducing new technology. It is about creating a new ITA — one that is modern, trusted, customer-focused and capable of meeting the evolving needs of Jamaica,” he said.

The ITA said it looks forward to advancing this vision under Bryan’s leadership as it continues its transition towards a modern and more effective road traffic regulator.
