BVI businessman, two St Lucians held in Trinidad cocaine seizure
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – A businessman from the British Virgin Islands and two Saint Lucians have been detained in Trinidad and Tobago following the seizure of approximately 416.5 kilogrammes of cocaine valued at TT$193.5 million (One TT dollar = US$ 0.16).
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said the 42-year-old businessman and the Saint Lucians, aged 38 and 37, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation in the Longdenville Police District.
Their names have not been released.
Police said the operation began at 3:40 am on Wednesday, September 2, and ended at 3:30 am the following day.
The exercise was coordinated by Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Kerwin Francis of the Criminal Division, with Acting Assistant Superintendent St Clair providing operational leadership.
Investigations focused on the suspected concealment of illegal firearms and narcotics at premises along Pokhor Road in Longdenville.
Acting under Section 12 of Trinidad and Tobago’s Emergency Powers Regulations 2026, officers searched a residence, warehouse and surrounding compound for firearms, narcotics and other prohibited items.
During the search, officers found six large backhoe tyres mounted on rims inside the warehouse. Further examination revealed rectangular packages concealed in four of the tyres.
Police recovered 420 packages, which Customs and Excise officers assisted in weighing.
The packages had a combined weight of approximately 416.5 kilogrammes and an estimated street value of TT$193,522,560.
Police said the BVI businessman was arrested on suspicion of offences connected to the seizure. They did not disclose the nature of his business or provide details about his alleged connection to the premises or the cocaine.
The scene was processed by officers from the Central Division Crime Scene Investigations Unit.
The seized packages were transported to the Special Investigations Unit in Port of Spain, while the three detained men were taken to the St Joseph Police Station pending further enquiries.
