Brown’s Town roll on in daCosta Cup
Brown’s Town High and Jamaal Johnson maintained their strong start to the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition after beating Marcus Garvey Technical 5-0 in a Zone C top-of-the-table clash at York Castle High on Tuesday.
Brown’s Town had opened the season with a school-record 20-0 win over debutants Walkerswood Academy on Saturday as they raced to six points at the top of the zone.
Ferncourt High also won back-to-back games after beating Walkerswood 9-0 at Drax Hall on Tuesday as the Paul “Tegat” Davis-coached team kept pace with Brown’s Town.
Five other teams, including former champions Rusea’s High and Munro College, will be seeking back-to-back wins today when the competition continues with 12 games.
Rusea’s High, who beat Little London High 8-0 on Saturday, will be at home at the Collin Miller Complex against Petersfield High in Zone B, while Munro College, who beat Lacovia High 4-1, will be home to Belair High.
Alphansus Davis High, Happy Grove, and Black River High will also be seeking to maintain winning records.
Johnson, who scored four times on Saturday, added two more goals for Brown’s Town as they extended their unbeaten run against Marcus Garvey, who had beaten Discovery Bay High 10-1 in their opening game.
Jaden Hanniford, Javier Henry, and Basil Traile also scored for Brown’s Town.
BB Coke High also won back-to-back games in a top-of-the-table clash, beating Lewisville High 3-0, while Bellefield High and Mile Gully High drew 2-2 in the other game featuring teams that won on Saturday.
Former champions St James High edged Muschett High 1-0 in their opening Zone A game at Jarrett Park, with Davano Brown scoring in the 68th minute.
At Herbert Morrison Technical, the home team rallied from a 1-0 half-time deficit to earn a 1-1 draw against Spot Valley High.
Kahjmar Brown gave Spot Valley the lead in the 14th minute, but Hasani Nelson equalised in the 61st minute.
Lacovia High rebounded from their opening loss to Munro College with a 17-0 win over Mount St Joseph Catholic, while Porus edged Winston Jones High 1-0.
Titchfield High were 2-1 winners over Tacky High, Central High edged Lennon High 1-0, while Charlemont High blanked Tacius Golding High 3-0.
