JPL enters ‘new era’ with National Stadium deal for Sunday/ Monday night games

JPL enters ‘new era’ with National Stadium deal for Sunday/ Monday night games

KINGSTON, Jamaica  — The Jamaica Premier League (JPL) is set to usher in a new era of match presentation and commercial growth after the  signing of a landmark partnership between Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL) and Independence Park Limited (IPL), operators of the National Stadium.

PFJL CEO Owen Hill told Observer Online that the agreement  will allow the JPL to stage key matches at the National Stadium on Sunday or Monday nights— a central pillar of the league’s ambitious “JPL 2.0” strategy.

Hill says the deal  provides greater access to quality playing surfaces and creates a more attractive product for players, fans, broadcasters and sponsors.

“Access is key for us,” Hill said. “This arrangement will become a turnkey solution for us over the season and gives us an opportunity to expand the quality playing surfaces that are available for the development of the sport.”

He described the partnership as critical to improving how the league stages and markets its featured games.

“Our partnership with IPL represents the kind of collaboration required to move the Jamaica Premier League forward,” Hill said.

“It allows us to improve how we stage, package and commercialise our featured matches while creating a better experience for players, supporters, broadcasters and partners.”

For Hill, the agreement is about more than just a venue.

“This is not simply about access to a venue; it is about building the infrastructure and environment necessary for a stronger professional football economy,” he said.

Hill also credited the Government and the Ministry of Sport for their support.

“It also shows that the ministry is supporting in niche ways, so I’m grateful for that,” Hill said.

The National Stadium arrangement aligns with the JPL’s push to modernise the competition, enhance the match-day experience, and unlock stronger commercial opportunities under the JPL 2.0.

With Sunday and Monday night fixtures now scheduled for the National Stadium, PFJL believes the platform will make the league more polished and commercially attractive.

The official launch of the JPL season will be held at the offices of Television Jamaica at 7:30 pm on Thursday. The league kicks off on Sunday, September 13.

It is also expected that Wisynco Group, through its Legend Beer brand, will be announced as the new title sponsor in a deal worth $300 million. They will replace Wray and Nephew.
