Coolie Dance rhythm returns to Billboard Hot 100 Top 10
KINGSTON, Jamaica —The Coolie Dance rhythm is back in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10.
The beat is sampled in the current global #1 hit Bby WOW by Karol G featuring Judeline and Rusowsky, which jumps from #16 to #10 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Released in late 2003 and produced by Cordell ‘Skatta’ Burrell, the Coolie Dance rhythm spawned several local hits by Elephant Man, Vybz Kartel, Bounty Killer and Ce’Cile, among others.
This is the second time the Coolie Dance rhythm has made the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In the summer of 2004, Puerto Rican sister duo Nina Sky rose to #4 with Move Ya Body, which featured a sample of the Coolie Dance rhythm.
Move Ya Body, released by Next Plateau/Universal Music, was named the 29th Best Song of 2004 by influential music publication Pitchfork. The song also peaked at #6 in the United Kingdom, #1 in Croatia and in the top 10 in Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Spain.
