KINGSTON, Jamaica — Dancehall artiste Yanik is turning up the energy with his latest single, Shake and Dweet, a vibrant track created especially for women who love to dance.

Although known primarily for conscious and uplifting music, Yanik was encouraged by his female supporters to explore a different side of his artistry.

“My girlfriends encouraged me to make more songs for the ladies. I don’t consider them fans; I consider them friends,” he said.

Yanik believes women are not dancing in the dancehall as much as they once did, and he hopes the new single will help revive that energy.

Produced by Kirk and recorded at HPM Studios in Springfield, Massachusetts, Shake and Dweet is supported by an upcoming music video filmed in Negril. Shot by Shabba and edited by Zum, the video showcases western Jamaica’s scenery while bringing the song’s dance-driven concept to life.

“I wanted to display the beautiful side of the country and showcase scenery that many people around the world don’t get to experience,” Yanik said.

Raised in Breezy Hill, Comfort, the artiste was surrounded by music from an early age. He sang in church, learned to play the piano and drums, and was introduced to the dancehall by his uncles and older cousins. As a youngster he also performed at Red Heat Lawn, a popular entertainment venue in the community.

Yanik began pursuing music seriously in 2017, after releasing his first dancehall single, Grabba Leaf. The response helped him secure opportunities to share stages with Chuck Fenda, Black Ryno, QQ and Serani.

To support his latest release Yanik has launched the Shake & Dweet Challenge, which offers a US$500 prize to the winner.

With more music and performances ahead he remains committed to building his career through originality.

“I’m staying in my own lane; I’m not trying to be like anybody else. I’m just being myself and continuing to release good music for the people to enjoy,” he said.
