Frome on verge of daCosta Cup 2nd-round progress
FORMER champions Frome Technical and St Mary High could be the first qualifiers for the second round of the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition when the first round resumes with 12 games on Tuesday.
The daCosta Cup was on a break to allow playing of matches in the Ben Francis Cup first round on Friday and Saturday.
St Mary High, who have won three matches in a row, will book a daCosta Cup second round spot from Zone I if they defeat Horace Clarke High at Highgate Community Centre.
St Mary High (nine points) are tied for the lead with Titchfield High, who could get the other automatic qualifying spot. St Mary High are expected to have their way with Horace Clarke High who have one point from their three games.
Frome Technical can secure their spot with a win over Little London High, providing Knockalva Technical do not beat Petersfield High.
Frome are flying high after back-to-back wins and will start favourites against Little London.
A week ago, playing without two regular starters, Frome Technical came from behind twice to beat Rusea’s High 4-2 in the daCosta Cup. On Saturday they eliminated Brown’s Town High from the Ben Francis Cup, winning 2-1.
Wayne Mullings has scored in consecutive games for Frome.
Elsewhere, Munro College and Black River High, both winners of their first four games, are to clash in a Zone D game at Munro.
Munro and surprise packages Black River High will put their impressive win records on the line. The victorious team will edge closer to a spot in the second round.
Munro hold the edge on goal-difference, scoring 28 goals, 13 more than second-placed Black River High. Both teams have only conceding once in the competition.
Bellefield High could take over sole leadership in Zone E when they take on May Day High.
Bellefield are joint leaders with Mile Gully High, both on eight points from two wins and two draws. But Bellefield are ahead on goal-difference.
If there is a winner from the Vere Technical High versus Porus High game, they could take over second place from Mile Gully. Vere and Porus are each on five points
