KINGSTON, Jamaica — Reggae artiste Sprain Brain returned from his recent European tour with a memory he treasures: fans in Germany singing his song Roots & Herbs along with him.

The tour, which ran from August 15 to 31, included performances in Germany, Spain and Holland. Presented by Reggae Vibes Productions Inc and DJ King Kenny Music, it carried the name of his uplifting single, Life Sweet.

“The response from the people all over was great. When I was in Germany, Roots & Herbs was the song they were singing with me,” he said.

His German engagements included Fire Fest in Berlin and the Life Sweet Afrocarrib Party Edition at Franz Club in Paderborn.

Produced by New York-based Michael “Jah Mikes” Coburn for Reggae Vibes Productions, Roots & Herbs celebrates farming, natural food and the agricultural traditions of Sprain Brain’s family.

Sprain Brain’s working relationship with producer Michael “Jah Mikes” Coburn began through fellow artiste Sativa the Black One. Jah Mikes gave Sativa a riddim, which Sativa then shared with Sprain Brain.

Sprain Brain recorded Roots & Herbs on that riddim, and the song brought him and Jah Mikes together.

According to the producer, they have continued working together and making great music since that initial connection.

The Clarendon-born artiste is also promoting Life Sweet, which has an official music video. He said the song expresses gratitude to God while encouraging listeners facing difficult times.

“When I see what God has done for us, I have to say life is sweet. It is like I am telling God thank you,” he explained. “No matter what you are going through, you don’t have to do anything bad. God is always there.”

Born Jeffrey Campbell, Sprain Brain began recording in 2014 with Me She Want. Previously known as Jegz, he has recorded with Sizzla and Bugle and placed second in the JCDC Festival Song Competition.

He is currently working on a new EP.
