WESTMORELAND, Jamaica —Petersfield High coach Audley Thomas is hanging on to his slim hope of qualifying for the second round of the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition after beating Little London High 1-0 in their rescheduled Zone B game played at Petersfield Community Centre on Thursday.

Petersfield High scored their first goal and first win of the competition in their third game and are on four points and in fifth place, with leaders Frome Technical and Rusea’s High on the verge of taking the automatic spots.

Frome Technical are on 13 points from five games played, and Rusea’s High are on nine from four games, with Green Island High and Knockalva Technical both on six points.

Petersfield have three games to be played, and Thomas is confident they are just getting started and will win all their remaining games. “We have three games to go, and we can get 13 points, and that is what we are going for,” he said after the game.

“It was a tough game; Little London came prepared to play, and they gave us a hard fight,” Thomas said, adding that he panicked towards the end when they were wasting chances.

Mark Taylor, head coach of the Little London team that had been eliminated from second-round consideration before Thursday’s game, was not pleased with the result, saying, “It’s a tough game to lose; we got indisciplined at the end of the game, and we were too slow to the first and second balls.”

Meanwhile, four schools have booked places in the second round so far: Brown’s Town High from Zone C, Yallahs High from Zone H and St Mary High and Titchfield High from Zone I.
