Canada-based Jamaican reggae artiste Plugz Pananak is using his latest single, Excuse Me Pardon Me, to confront the personal struggles, emotional scars and trauma that many people carry silently.

Written by Plugz Pananak and produced by Smokeshop, the song delivers a message about the need for healing. The artiste said the unusual title reflects a cry for help and an acknowledgement of the emotions he had kept bottled up inside.

“Everyone needs healing,” he said, adding that the deeply personal nature of the song made it the right single to promote at this stage of his career.

Plugz Pananak describes the sound of Excuse Me Pardon Me as rich, complex and mature, comparing it to the depth of aged wine. He said the response from first-time listeners has been encouraging, with many people relating to its message.

Although he is based in Canada, Plugz Pananak remains deeply connected to his Jamaican roots. He considers himself an ambassador for the island’s culture and believes that Jamaica and its diaspora continue to exert tremendous influence on music worldwide.

Breaking into the Jamaican market is therefore an important goal for the artiste, who believes recognition at home would validate his contribution to reggae music.

Plugz Pananak credits his extensive reading and determination to be different for helping him develop a distinctive lyrical approach. Having grown up during the era of eight-track recordings, he has witnessed major changes in the way music is created, marketed and consumed.

Despite achieving several small victories and gaining recognition for his individuality, he identifies securing consistent radio play in Jamaica—and ultimately worldwide—as one of his greatest challenges.

Excuse Me Pardon Me is expected to appear on his upcoming self-titled album, Plugz Pananak.

Through the project, the artiste hopes to expand his audience while continuing to create thoughtful music that connects with listeners on a personal and emotional level.
