MONTEGO BAY, St James — A man whose house was searched after camera footage linked him to a small quantity of cocaine discovered on the floor at Sangster International Airport has had his bail extended. He is to return to court on November 4.

Police reportedly found additional quantities of the drug at Andre Grant’s workstation. His place of employment is inside the airport. Charged with possession and dealing in cocaine, Grant appeared in the St James Parish Court before Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton on Wednesday.

The court heard that on September 1, a police constable stationed in the airport’s departure hall observed a small yellow plastic bag on the ground. Upon examining the package, the cop reportedly found a white substance that later tested positive for cocaine.

CCTV footage reviewed the following day showed a male walking when the yellow package fell from his pocket. The man was subsequently located and identified as Grant, the court was told.

A search of his workstation reportedly uncovered a white envelope, a small transparent resealable plastic bag and another transparent resealable plastic bag containing a blue, paste-like substance. The allegations are that the substances found in the packages all tested positive for cocaine.

The court was told that a search of Grant’s person led to the discovery of US$1,251. When questioned about the money, he reportedly told the police that it came from tips.

After being cautioned, Grant allegedly admitted that the substance he dropped in the departure hall was cocaine, adding that it helped him relax.

The court further heard that Grant subsequently led the police to his home, where US$1,680 was found. He reportedly told the police that the money came from tips.

The allegations are that several empty plastic containers and opaque containers containing a white substance were also found at the premises. The substance reportedly tested positive for cocaine.

Grant allegedly told the police that he had purchased the cocaine from someone at Harvey Beach.

He was subsequently arrested and charged.

During Wednesday’s proceedings, the clerk of the court disclosed that the CCTV footage, a corroborating cop’s statement, a functionality statement and the forensic certificate were outstanding.
