Law students at The University of the West Indies, Mona campus, came out in their numbers for the recent staging of the brunch series Roll Call in Full Bloom, which took place at the Faculty of Law.

Dressed to the nines, the university students danced to the musical delights provided by Likkle Genius, DJ Russian, and Belizean student DJ Masta King.

The food at the brunch comprised a variety of international cuisine, but for most attendees the music was what really mattered.

“Great vibes, the music is what I came for,” said second year student Calbert La Beach.

Victor Stewart, the faculty’s publications chairperson, echoed a similar sentiment.

“The music is really the icing on the cake. The food is okay, but we came here to have fun, and that’s the high point for me here tonight,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Armed with a slew of tunes, DJ Russian ran through soca hits, dancehall, and Afrobeats, much to the delight of patrons.

Belizean student DJ Masta King was also in good form, and DJ Likkle Genius had the females singing word for word to songs from Vanessa Bling, Jada Kingdom, Stalk Ashley, among others.

Nadine Hylton, brand manager for Smirnoff, sponsors of the event, shared that when organisers approached her to partner it was an opportunity she couldn’t turn down.

“It was an immediate yes. [For] most people like me, university life is the first time you step out into real adulthood, and you want a taste of something different. Smirnoff is the first drink you’d want to try, so I thought why not help these young adults make this next step of their journey,” said Hylton. “We believe in living responsibly, and its very important to be a part of their journey, how to celebrate, and come together in a very safe place.”

Atari Dobney, culture and entertainment chairperson for the Faculty of Law, who organised the event, shared that he was pleased with the turn of events.

“The patrons enjoyed themselves and I’m sure they’re excited for the next event. The support wasn’t bad either and they enjoyed the food and the music. Not only are students in attendance from the faculty of law but other students on the campus have come out to give their support. I’m happy about how things turned out,” she said.
