39 killed in crashes during August – ITA
The Island Traffic Authority (ITA) is reporting that 39 people were killed in 33 fatal crashes during the month of August.
This represents an increase of 18 per cent in fatalities and an increase of 10 per cent in fatal crashes when compared with August 2025.
With six, St Catherine parish recorded the most fatalities during the month under review. St Ann and St James came next with five fatalities each, followed by Westmoreland with four.
The ITA said St Mary, Trelawny, and Manchester each recorded three fatalities, while St Andrew, Portland, Clarendon and Hanover had two fatalities each. Kingston and St Elizabeth each had two fatalities and St Thomas had none.
The ITA said that during the month, private motor vehicle drivers accounted for 11 fatalities or 28 per cent of the total; motorcyclists accounted for 10 deaths or 26 per cent; while pedestrians accounted for six deaths or 15 per cent of the overall fatalities.
