Cornwall, Manchester meet in Ben Francis Cup

MANY-TIME champions Cornwall College and Manchester High will kick off the Round of 16 of the ISSA Ben Francis Cup competition when they meet at Manchester High in Mandeville at 3:00 pm today.

This game will be a repeat of their quarter-final game in Montego Bay last season when Cornwall College won 4-2 on penalties after the teams had drawn 1-1 after 90 minutes, with the winner advancing to the quarter-finals.

The Round of 16 will continue tomorrow with another seven games, including a meeting between last season’s semi-finalists McGrath High and Christiana High.

Joshua Wilson scored twice for McGrath High while Alex Williams, Jim Mitchell and Requan Jonas scored one each. McGrath High finished the game with 10 players after goalkeeper Rojaun Wines was sent off in the second half.

Both Cornwall College, finalists last season, and Manchester High are ranked teams and were comfortable winners in their two previous games.

Cornwall College beat Troy High 20-0 in their first game before beating Knox College 4-1 on Saturday, while Manchester High beat Lennon High 7-0 and then eliminated Titchfield High 8-0 on Saturday.
