Taking A Chance
The connection between Jamaicans Dennis Evans and Racquel Stewart began on April 1, 2020, through a Facebook message sent by Dennis from the United States to Racquel in Jamaica. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdown chats revealed shared interests. But their connection was truly put to the test when he travelled to Jamaica in April 2021 for their first face-to-face meeting.
“He’s from Trelawny, so that’s where we agreed to meet. He actually organised for his friend to take me there. I was nervous because I’d never done anything like that before, but the moment we met in person, the energy was undeniable,” Racquel shared with Tuesday Style Vows (TSV). “Everything felt so genuine, so real as if I had known him all my life.”
Any lingering doubts vanished during their Trelawny encounter, as meeting Dennis’ parents solidified Racquel’s feelings for him.
“I believe that only a good man who is really interested in you will bring you to meet his parents! In that moment, I felt so special, and right away my feelings for him grew so much deeper,” Racquel said.
The pair soon made their relationship official. As they grew closer, a dream confirmed what her heart already knew — Dennis was indeed the man she had prayed for.
Everything aligned seamlessly on May 4, 2025, when Dennis proposed to Racquel, adding an unforgettable highlight to her birthday celebrations.
“He secretly planned a proposal dinner with my niece, telling me it was just for my birthday. He wanted to make it extra special with a few close friends and family over at the house in May Pen, so they arranged everything behind my back,” Racquel recounted to
TSV. “When I walked into the room, I saw him standing in front of a LED sign that read, ‘Will You Marry Me?’ It made my birthday unforgettable!”
Here comes the bride…
On July 31, 2026, Dennis and Racquel celebrated their nuptials at Miramar Villas in Ocho Rios, St Ann. Breathtaking in a Jonathan Kayne mermaid gown, Racquel walked up the aisle on the arm of her father, Charles Stewart, to Nathaniel Bassey’s See What the Lord Has Done. In the presence of loved ones, Racquel and Dennis exchanged vows officiated by Marcus Evans. Despite a few unexpected hurdles throughout the day, Racquel still got the fairy-tale ending she had dreamed of.
“I knew without a doubt that God’s hand was upon our marriage — despite the day’s unexpected hiccups and complications, the ceremony unfolded beautifully,” Racquel said.
Following heartfelt toasts from loved ones wishing the newly-weds a lifetime of happiness, Racquel and Dennis cut their three-tiered wedding cake by Joan Perry, after which they shared their first dance as husband and wife to Hold Me by Whitney Houston and Teddy Pendergrass.
The newly-weds honeymooned in Barbados.
