Two zone winners to be decided in daCosta Cup clashes

ST ANN, Jamaica — The winners of Zones C and I in the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition will be decided on Thursday when the top teams in both zones face off in crucial clashes.

Ferncourt High, which leads Zone C with 15 points, will face second-placed Browns Town High, who have 13 points, at York Castle High. In the other Zone C fixture, St Mary High and Titchfield High, both on 12 points and separated by goal difference, will meet at Carder Park.

The qualifiers from both zones are among the nine teams that have already secured passage to the second round, but Thursday’s matches will determine which second-round groups they will enter.

Paul “Tegat” Davis-coached Ferncourt High have been perfect after five games, and a draw would be enough to secure zone honours. If they finish as zone winners, they will be placed in Group 6 alongside Cornwall College, Mannings School, William Knibb Memorial High, the winner of Zone A and the runner-up from Zone B.

The second-placed team will be placed in Group 2 alongside Glenmuir High and Old Harbour High, as well as the winners of Zones G and H and the runner-up from Zone D.

Browns Town have scored 43 goals in their five games, including 20 in a single match against newcomers Walkerswood Academy. However, they dropped points against Cedric Titus High.

Meanwhile, St Mary High and Titchfield High will both be looking to maintain their perfect records. A draw, however, would be enough for St Mary, who have a seven-goal advantage over their opponents on goal difference.

Thursday’s games at 3:30pm:

Browns Town High vs Ferncourt — York Castle High

Marcus Garvey Technical vs Cedric Titus High — Drax Hall

Discovery Bay High vs York Castle High — Port Rhodes

Titchfield High vs St Mary High — Carder Park

Horace Clarke High vs Wycliffe Martin High — Horace Clarke

Iona High vs Tacky High — Rio Nuevo

— Paul A Reid
